Melancholy Town (6/4)

The band have spoken out about the new video Feel Good Inc, which you can now see in the Multimedia section of the website:

2D: I think Gorillaz built a tower around themselves that they couldn't get out of. Of excess and hedonism. The video is based on this feeling. For a while it was great to be on the inside, but the party's got out of hand. It' s become like the Last days of Pompeii... a... er... Sodding Gommorah. The Feel Good Inc Tower represents this. The palace we built has become a prison. In the video I'm just waking up from this year-long hedonists dream, and I realise that maybe... the fruits of success have turned sour.

Noodle is outside of the Tower, in the pale morning-after light, sitting on the edge of this floating island. And you can see she knows what's happening. But people have to wake up to it themselves. So that's what the video is about; being trapped by the things you make, and realising everyone else is caught up in it. Using it. Just... they need their party to continue, to keep this thing afloat. The Tower of Babel.

Murdoc: Apart from the obvious thing, which is my gyrating hips, the coolest thing about the video would be the the hydraulics on this gig. Just for the windmill section alone cost about 3.5 million pounds. That's sterling. We had to buy a small island, make a mold of it and then scrape out all the insides. When that was done we filled the whole thing full of helium. Using the motor from the windmill we managed to get the thing to float, but it was an absolute bugger!

Keep checking the Multimedia section for further things to watch and play with!

.

Feel Good Inc (22/3)

As previously reported, Feel Good Inc will be released 9th May 2005, on the following formats:

CD
1. Feel Good Inc. (Single Version)
2. Spitting Out The Demons

Ltd. 7" Picture Disc
A. Feel Good Inc. (Single Version)
B. 68 State

DVD
1. Feel Good Inc. (Video)
2. Spitting Out The Demons
3. Bill Murray (feat. The Bees)

As for the video, it opens at the end of another big night at the Feel Good Inc. tower in an anonymous grey city. The tower is awash with casualties from the party, all sleeping off the effects of the night before. 2D is the last one standing. As he gazes out of the window he sees Noodle pass by on a floating island, topped by a huge windmill. Her world is one of green grass, dappled sunshine and butterflies - in stark contrast to the grimy and debauched world of the tower.

Here's what Noodle had to say: "The windmill is a representation of a note of optimism, a memory of a simpler time. A snapshot picture of an older world, a note of simplicity and a little remembrance of a more innocent moment, pre-struggle."

Covers? Original! (15/3)

We can now also provide happy confirmation of the artwork for both the upcoming album, Demon Days, and the lead single Feel Good Inc.

Feel Good Inc, 9 May 05

Demon Days, 23 May 05

.

It's A Brand New Day (11/3)

We can now provide happy confirmation that Gorillaz' second album, Demon Days, will be released through Parlophone on 23rd May (the day after in the US) and will be preceded by the single Feel Good Inc. on 9th May.

The album is co-produced by Gorillaz and Danger Mouse, and was recorded at the band's own Kong Studios. We can confirm that the album is both darker and a much more intense affair than 2001's debut album, but enough about what I think - here's what the band had to say:

Noodle: The soul of the recording can't avoid being a manifestation of the time, climate and location of the place we were in when it was recorded. Consequently the colours are rich, dark and heavy while the rhythms are clean, strategic and relentless. It has a consciousness to it.

2-D: Like someone has taken the first album and coloured it in.

Russel: Noodle wrote most of this album herself. Murdoc may try and take the credit for it, but from the basic sketches to the finished album, this was Noodle's vision.

And what a vision. Featured on the album are contributions from De La Soul, Neneh Cherry, Martina Topley-Bird, Roots Manuva, MF Doom, Ike Turner, Bootie Brown of the Pharcyde, Shaun Ryder, Dennis Hopper, the London Community Gospel Choir and the San Fernandez Youth Chorus.

In preparation for the release of the album, the band are currently filming the promo video for Feel Good Inc with video director Jamie Hewlett. The video will star guest performers De La Soul alongside the band.

We hope to feature Q & A with the band over the coming weeks in the lead up to the album, so keep watching the site to find out when you can send your questions in to the band!

Heading Southwest (10/3)

With the NME having confirmed the completion and forthcoming release of the new album Demon Days, we can EXCLUSIVELY reveal that the world's first listen to the album will be happening next Thursday, 17th March at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, TX.

Invites to this party are in circulation but are said to be difficult to get ahold of. The first 200 through the door at the Red Fez in Austin will be receiving Apple iTunes custom download cards to go online and receive a free high quality download of Dirty Harry from the new album.

Gorillaz have asked Danger Mouse to arrive at the party and spin some tracks from his iPod. It is rumoured at present that Murdoc will be delivering the tapes to the party himself, and in typical fashion he had this to say for himself:

"I'm hand-delivering this precious baby myself. One slip up and these 15 tracks of gold will be splashed all over the internet faster than you can say 'bring forward the release date.'"

In other news, it appears that Reject False Icons has again been updated with more downloadable files to create your own stickers. We also have it on good authority that the site may be launching a very interesting competition in the very near future.

.

Reject False Icons seems to have been updated with more downloads for chatty fun.

Reject False Icons (21/2)

REJECT FALSE ICONS.

.

Demon Days (17/2)

NME got a bit trigger happy on the news we were expecting on the 23rd and decided to run it this week instead which was awfully nice of them! We like it when things are ahead of schedule around these parts, it gives us something to do!

The proverbial cat has left the bag, the new album is titled Demon Days. Noodle, mistakenly referred to as a man in the NME, had the following to say about the title: "its interpretation is completed by the instinct of the listener. In one sense the demon is a disease and the disease is an absence of thought, a state where people make action without consideration. This is the incredible evil, with a million eyes. This is the return of the ogre, the rise of the beats. Its time is now."

More press and news to follow shortly!

.
