Gorillaz Songs Live In Manchester (19/9) In a world first, Gorillaz' smash hit second album Demon Days will be performed in its entirety across five consecutive nights (November 1st - 5th) at the Opera House, Manchester - as part of a series of trailblazing events ahead of the inaugural Manchester International Festival in late June and early July 2007. The album's guest musicians will descend on Manchester to take on the task of recreating the three-million selling Demon Days live onstage. The two-dimensional band members will take a back seat as their musical collaborators are brought together for the first time ever, in five remarkable and unrepeatable performances. Guest musicians will include Happy Mondays front-man Shaun Ryder and UK hip hop artist Roots Manuva, with further names to be announced in the run-up to the event. Demon Days producer and Gorillaz co-creator Damon Albarn will also be on hand to help bring the album to life. Murdoc comments: "The way I look at this gig is kinda like the Pope giving his blessing to another Parish. Gorillaz whole-heartedly condone these Manchester concerts and I'm sure musically it'll be top-notch, especially with the original guests. You should look at it like a great orchestra performing the works of, say, Beethoven. These gigs will be the only 'Gorillaz Approved' renditions we ever allow, so catch it while you can." Tour Rumours (5/9) Those of you listening to the chart countdown on Radio 1 yesterday will have been amused to hear Murdoc's interview with the chart hosts in which our man was quite funny! In any event, some news in which you may be interested: It has been reported that the band are set to perform live at a music industry event in London at the end of October, testing the Demon Days material as road-worthy before kicking off a full scale tour. The band has decided to leave no stone unturned in their question to develop one of the best stage shows ever seen, and are in the process of developing a highly extravagant multimedia set. At the moment it is unclear whether a full scale tour will arrive before 2007, however it has been promised that it will be far more technologically advanced than the group's performance at the 2002 Brit Awards. In other news, Launch's chartspotter James Masterton had this to say about Gorillaz hitting the peak of the singles chart this week: "Just as the last Gorillaz single 'Feel Good Inc' dips out of the Top 40 after an epic 20 week run, the second single from 'Demon Days' storms the chart and beats the peak of its predecessor to give the virtual band their first ever Number One hit. To say that people love the single is something of an understatement. 'Dare' surely has to go down as the most universally praised single of the year, just about every review you read showering it with praise in one form or another. Central to its attraction is the presence of a certain Shaun William Ryder on guest vocals, the former Happy Mondays frontman landing his first chart hit for some time and inadvertently winding up with his biggest ever. As with any Gorillaz track, seeing the video is central to the whole experience and this one does not disappoint, showing Noodle dancing and singing to her genetic creation - the giant disembodied head of Mr Ryder. "It gets boring saying nice things about Gorillaz all the time but heck, what can you do? For those still cynical, 'Dare' is actually a better single than 'Feel Good Inc' and in many ways their most accessible track since '19-2000'. If nothing else it has done what the Happy Mondays and Black Grape could not, giving Shaun Ryder a presence on the biggest selling single in the land." . NUMBER ONE (4/9) Gorillaz have entered the official UK singles chart at NUMBER ONE with the new single DARE! More commentary later! . SFAS Part 2 (2/9) The winners of Search For A Star Part 2 have been announced! Danny Gonzalez from Orlando, Florida wins the audio round with "Indian dance." He said: "I made this with my soul and hear this is a ethnic sounding electronic song." Irina Bolshakova, a university student from Russia has won the image round with "2D & Paula." She also made a video that won round 13 and made it into the final lucky 13 before it went out. In other news, the chart battle is on for Sunday as DARE bids to enter the UK singles chart at number one! Will it be possible? Get out and pick up your copy of the single and make sure!. In the States this week, the album has shot back up to #8, Feel Good Inc holds in the top 20 on the singles chart and #1 for the third consecutive week on the Rock charts! |
