Penguin books are thrilled to announce the publication, later this year, of the autobiography of Gorillaz. Written by all four members of the band, the autobiography will give Murdoc, Noodle, 2D and Russel Hobbs the opportunity to tell the whole of their remarkable story so far.
Following the massive success of the music, website, animation and live shows, the stunningly illustrated full colour hardback marks a new direction for the groundbreaking band. Full of new and unseen material, Gorillaz' autobiography will say more about them than ever before, putting flesh on the bones of a unique musical adventure. There's never been a rock autobiography like this before. And there probably won't be another one.
The book will be published in the UK in October. The imprint's Publishing Director, Rowland White says: 'Gorillaz will be right at home. Penguin has a long history of commitment to innovative design and Gorillaz' book will be a proud addition to that. With the imagination and invention that have characterised Gorillaz evident on every page, the autobiography will be the definitive visual record.' Gorillaz bass-slayer Murdoc Nicalls is equally excited: "I tell you what, right, I can guarantee you're going to get some real juicy bits of Gorillaz info. I'll probably slag off loads of people, too. It'll be packed full of great shots from the sets of our videos, gigs, rehearsals, interviews you name it. It's all in there. So place your order up front kids, this book's going to be a scorcher!"
Penguin acquired World Rights for the title and it will be published in America by their Riverhead imprint.
El Mañana/Kids With Guns has entered the UK singles chart at #27. Have any of you been creatively and artistically inspired by the El Mañana video? Leave us a comment below - we may have an idea for you soon.
Most of regrettably, D-12 rapper Proof has been tragically killed in a shooting in Detroit. Russel wants to pass along this message:
Russel: We are all deeply saddened and shaken to hear the devastating news regarding the death of Proof. Gorillaz had the great privilege of teaming up with D12 on the track 911 and to hear of his passing in this way is a terrible, unnecessary tragedy. He will be a hugely missed presence, personality and talent in the world of music and beyond. On behalf of Gorillaz at this difficult and sensitive time we send all our thoughts and love out to Proof, his family, his bandmates and his colleagues. He was a father figure to the Detroit Rap scene and a primary motivator in the inception of D12, and people of that stature are few and far between. This shocking incident is an enormous tragedy and once again an incredibly demonstrative indication that the guns need to be put down for good. Proof, rest in peace - Love from Gorillaz.

First off - the powers that be have asked us to pass this along to anyone in the NYC area:
"Interns (UNPAID) needed to help out with Gorillaz shows in NYC 4/1-4/6. Must be able to work from 2P-till end of show. Must be professional, organized and really desire a working experience. Please contact email@example.com with your interest, why you are not just a groupie (no resume, just a few sentences) and contact information. Thanks!"
Also, the band would like to pass along their thanks to everyone who took part in the GES mobile phone competition and would like to congratulate these winners! Thanks again to everyone who entered for all the help!
3 special mentions:
7 runners up:
First off... those of you in and around London tonight should head over to the National Theatre - at 7.15pm they will be screening all 4 videos from Demon Days on the flytower. For more info click here.
Second, there have been lots of rumours about the future of Gorillaz in the papers the last few days. We tracked down Murdoc and here's what he told us:
"How tedious. I've said we're about to split up in every single interview we've ever done and no-one's batted an eyelid. And then some 'source close to the band' says the very same thing down the pub and now it's all over the paper! So the truth only works as a rumour, does it? I bet this inside spy also said he was 'close personal friends' with whatshischops, Albarn, too. Well that's another Scoop of the Year Award for those tireless newshounds. Gorillaz split up every five minutes, there's no great story there."
So there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth... you can all keep speculating now!
In other news don't forget that the Demon Days Live DVD is out Monday in the UK!
